History of the English Language

Other than a few tidbits about the progression of the English language, no one teaches the history of the English language. I get it. But I had all this information as I researched and built my History Behind Beowulf resource that I thought I would package the language information and see if anyone liked it.

Surprisingly, I’ve sold more than I thought I would.

To begin, if you actually teach your students about the history of the English language, I didn’t want a bunch of information thrown at the students. The resource was constructed as a series of infographics to helps students understand it and follow it. This also makes it easier if you want to teach the information in chucks as you progress through English literature.

Second, I wanted it to be easy for teachers to use if they are using this as a primer for themselves in order to teach about English or English literature. This resource provides a lot of interesting tidbits you can include with your lessons.

Finally, it’s just interesting. I liked learning it as I did the research. Sometimes its nice to teach something that isn’t testable but because it will interest you or your students. The more they are exposed to the better off they will be in the future.
